Experimental Film Development Work

Gender embryology: http://gender.org.uk/about/04embryo/44_cncp.htm

Above is the first cut of my film.

In the 2nd cut I added one audio clip and changed the timing little bit. Added wiggle on the lines and the black box and color graded the ending.

An example of a photo I came across in my research.

Watching me as a reminder

As a bonus he helped me through some lonely dinners

The elevator I ended up using

It had at least 9 floors. That will do.

Poor guy. It will be hard to say goodbye.

When I was looking for scissors sounds on YouTube I discovered a thing called ASMR. It’s where people listen to a certain sound for a weird pleasure. Here’s an example:

Here’s another freaky example:

I’m definitely going to try to use some sort of ASMR as a part of my future projects.

Experimental Film Final Cut

Self Evaluation 2.0

My intention was to raise awareness of the gender spectrum. There are so many things that can happen when we develop our gender. The idea that you can be raised as boy but feeling like a girl fascinates me. There are a lot of questions that pop up with this subject, regarding what is right and what is wrong, and I wanted to make people ask themselves those questions when they watch this movie. The baby in this movie develops a male gender physically but a female gender mentally. Everyone expects a girl, even the baby him/herself.

I got interested in the issue when I was working and befriended a transgender person. She was born a man but struggled all her life with the longing of becoming a woman. Unfortunately, her body rejected the hormone therapy which resulted in her getting cancer three times, but beating all of them. She remains with the looks of a man, but identifies herself as a woman. This got me thinking about genders, and the terribly weird feeling you must experience have when you feel like you have the wrong one. I started looking into the whole gender embryology but the more I studied it, the more I realised that there isn’t much known really, except for some X’s and Y’s. That leaves us with the whole mystery of gender, physically and mentally.

I got in contact with my transgender friend and we had a chat about it. She told me that she feels like Iceland is probably one the best places on earth to be transgender. All children are taught in school mandatorily about the subject, which usually leads to a better understanding and more respect. Since there is no right or wrong when it comes to this matter, I tried to make this movie open to interpretation. I hope it gets the audience to think about the subject and ask themselves questions because that is the first step towards understanding.
